I realized that I did too many poetry books during this staff development, but there are so many good ones out there! I fell in love with this book when I read it to my middle son Austin. The illustrations are so cute! I can't wait to share this with my classes next week in the library!!! I LOVE new books!

We started this book in the library (good modeling for me, Colleen) and continued in my classroom. We talked a lot about point of view, but we were especially interested in the vocabulary (I have mostly ESL kids.) We listed these new words in our writing journals and discussed how we could use them in the stories we are writing now or the poems we are writing for Colleen.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the book. We used as a vucabulary focus with the word Hiking we create a fryer model together and the students were able to work together in the map.
ReplyDeleteI thought this book had some really cute poems. I think this would be a great way to encourage students to write. They could see that writing can be about silly things too.
ReplyDeleteGreat vocabulary lesson text!!! Great book for teach writing enrichment...I observed Colleen model this lesson - great for kiddos that have limited vocabulary - gives them a chance to leean new words in a fun way!
ReplyDeleteAgain, I'm not a big fan of poetry, but I like Pam's idea about encouraging the kiddos to write. They'd love writing a book for the classroom that has a poem about something that each of them has! It's also a great book for context clues. I think the majority of the words may be too easy for 5th graders, but there are some good words that could be used in a lesson. I could also use this to tutor over context clues. It would make it a lot more fun!
ReplyDeleteI loved this book. You could read a poem a day and draw about it or just enjoy it! I enjoyed Bob's Bicycle Helmet.
ReplyDeleteI really like this book, it is great to teach writing. Students can learn new vocabulary words while you read fun poems
ReplyDeleteCute poems. My kids liked "Emely's Undies". Great for point of view!!!!
